morning walks

Monday morning aka carrion morning. The moon almost full hung just above falling into the valley beyond Barton Skyway. First bright morning in weeks. Post end of daylight savings time. Collins opted to let Jack run without his leash. I followed removing Bella's. And we walked on the lightly lit trail. Just passed the benches Jack ducked into the woods. After much haranguing I stepped into the woods towards him. No amount of calling caused him to budge. He was circling. Soon joined by Bella and Godot. As I neared I recognized the remains of racoon. Not much to recognize. As I gathered the dogs the screeches of vultures echoed above. We walked on along the trail as usual. Along the trail on the other side of the coon's remains Collins leashed Jack and then Godot. Hesitating I was left to duck in to collect Bella. So we walked back along the bench side. This time hearing the hoot of the owl along with the screeches. Howls and screeches soothed by the steady flow of traffic beyond the creek canyon - Mopac.

Tuesday morning aka owl morning. Moon still bright. Our walk followed a different path. Approaching the greenbelt from the school entrance. We walked a reverse walk of most of our days. Coming down towards the benches two owls graced the top of the tallest tree. Softly hooting. A measured rhythm announcing day's break.
