on a rooftop in Antigua

we sit on tall wrought iron chairs
feet hooked around the lower wrung

sun sparkles in our eyes and hair
warms our skin

we sit facing the closing day
chatter bubbles from our lips
expressing our joy

red tile roofs spread beneath our perch
mountains grow up beyond the city's reach
creating a lacy edge against the sky

elbows rest on smooth varnished table tops
happily we sit sipping tart beverages
celebrating the day setting beyond the mountaintops

kindness

between the regions of kindness
lies life
morning walks shrouded in mist
soft light held in tiny drops
form light globes against a dark sheet
coffee cups found easily in the drawer
where I always find them
water heater lit in the early morning
when you need to be showering for the day

with the thread of sorrow
a thought is unwrapped
leaving its memory open to gaze upon
a reminder of a past indiscretion
a weekend long ago
words and moments not adding up
the meaning of an invitation never grasped

with the thread of sorrow
tucked away deep in the pocket
of a jacket worn long ago
a memory
a reminder
ready to be shoved back into that pocket
